Description

Indulge in these flaky, buttery Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes – a delightful pastry treat with a rich, creamy filling and a sweet, fruity surprise.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

– 1/4 cup granulated sugar

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

– 1/2 cup powdered sugar

– 1 cup fresh strawberries, diced

– 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash

Instructions

1. In a food processor, combine the flour, butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2. Add the cream cheese and pulse until the dough comes together in a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

3. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4-inch thickness. Use a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

5. Place the heart-shaped dough on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the diced strawberries into the center of each heart.

6. Brush the edges of the dough with the egg wash.

7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

8. Allow the Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a sweeter filling, you can add an extra 1-2 tablespoons of powdered sugar to the cream cheese mixture. These pastries can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
