Description
Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this Tallow-Fried Sourdough Patty Melt. Featuring a juicy beef patty, melted cheese, and caramelized onions sandwiched between crisp, golden-brown sourdough slices fried in savory tallow, this dish is a true taste sensation.
Ingredients
– 1 pound ground beef
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 8 slices sourdough bread
– 1/2 cup tallow
– 8 slices cheddar cheese
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the tallow. Fry the sourdough slices in the tallow until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer the fried bread to a paper towel-lined plate.
3. In the same skillet, cook the beef patties until browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Transfer the patties to a plate.
4. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the skillet. Cook the onion slices, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and softened, about 10-15 minutes.
5. Assemble the patty melt by placing a beef patty on one slice of the fried sourdough bread, then top with two slices of cheddar cheese and some caramelized onions. Top with another slice of fried sourdough bread.
6. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make 4 patty melts.
Notes
For best results, use high-quality sourdough bread and freshly ground beef. The tallow frying adds a unique and delicious flavor to the dish.
